Severe acute malnutrition and moderate acute malnutrition are among the degree of malnutrition faced by millions of children around the world, out of which India is home for approximately 9 million of severely acutely malnourished children under the age of five. Malnutrition in India is among the major causes of death of children under the age of six. The latest NFHS-4 data reveal the status of Malnutrition is extreme in 12 states of the country, higher than the national average of 7.5%. Many children are unable to reach their potential age, height and weight due to the lack of nutrition in their dietary requirement and some are born malnourished as the mother are suffering from lack of nutrition. Nuflower works towards diminishing this nutritional gap and providing a healthy life to the children with SAM and MAM.
The Community based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) approach is one the effective ways for the treatment of SAM and MAM children at the community level with the help of community workers and the use of therapeutic food and supplementary food respectively. Ready-to-use Supplementary food and Ready-to-use Therapeutic food are an energy-intensive peanut-based nutritional paste that helps the child fulfil the nutritional gaps in their daily food requirement.
